Giving thanks for extra things

I decided to do a thankful post, figuring that it was appropriate for Thanksgiving. I chose to pick things that started with the letters of my name to be creative. As I was going through my list, I found that my answers, while not all inclusive, were very simple things. They were creative, but not generic. I think back to all the times I have been asked "What are you thankful for?" and my answer was always things like "Food" and "House." People across the globe have these things, even in the poorest of areas, but do they have them to the extent that I do. Not always. I tend to thank God for the big things, but I seem to forget all the extra things he gives me. I forget how in-depth my thanks should really go.

Apples dipped in chocolate caramel dip
Anticipation of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving
Awesome friends who can tell when I am upset and will stick with me
Laughing with my family watching the A-team
Laptop of my own
Little marshmallows for my hot chocolate with espresso
Yummy chocolate chip cookies
Youngsters running all over the house
Yucky medicine that helps me when I get infections
Saturday soccer games
Sunday school lessons that make me think
Sugary pick-me-ups
Orange juice for Sunday pancakes
Oreos for my ice cream
Old pictures that bring back great memories
No school for the week
New songs that I just fall in love with
Never ending love of God

This list is not all inclusive, but it made me think of all the things that I am truly thankful for yet tend to forget.

I started my current story, Ideal Lies, last year, and this time, I decided to make it a trilogy. This story is a mix between dystopian and utopian.

I Missed the Only Year of My Life When I Could Sing, "I am sixteen going on seventeen."

Sound of Music has been my favorite movie since I was in kindergarten. My second favorite scenes was the invasion of the Nazi's. Don't ask why? I guess it was foreshadowing to my future history major. My favorite scene is when Liesl sings, "I am sixteen going on seventeen."
For years, I waited until I turned sixteen so I could sing that song. I didn't care that the two characters were falling in love. I just wanted to sing the lines, "I am sixteen," with accuracy.
Well, today I am seventeen. In the past year, I never got the chance to watch Sound of Music and sing along. This kind of made me sad . . .
Until I think back to all the times my sister, MK, sang the songs from The Sound of Music with beauty and grace. She fell in love with the movie just like had, and she doesn't care that she's not sixteen. She just loves music and singing. Listening to her was better than fulfilling a childhood dream.
